I was born in 1981. I know it was when Kim Carnes released Bette Davis Eyes as a single. Also when the outburst of AIDS started to spread around the globe and still is. Reagan and the Pope were almost killed. So not a very nice year for that matter. The Columbia got sent to space and Prince Charles married Lady Diana.
Edit: Francoi Mitterand was elected president of France for many many years, and in February Spain suffered a coup that fortunately got avoided.
